“SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!”
The Thread Fashion Show sets up in Horton Plaza on Sunday, April 11th, from 11AM-5PM in the space above Sam Goody’s. More than 100 emerging designers in men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, house wares, art and more will bring their products and style in hopes to inspire you and to inspire you to buy.
Psst. Do you want to get in for $8 instead of $10? Then, here’s the deal: Either show up on Sunday with a bag of clothes to donate, or be green by taking public transportation to the show and showing your bus or trolley ticket at the door, or rsvp by Saturday, April 10th.
And, mamas — you can bring the kiddies! Kids 12 and under can go for free. I only wish my fashionista 8-year-old niece Emma was down here this weekend. For real: She’d be Rachel Zoe to my Anne Hathaway.
Let’s do this.
It’s Wednesday. Help make the weekend feel a little bit closer by watching Juan Pablo Zaramella’s animated short film, Lapsus. I promise that it offers a giggle and some creative inspiration.
I first saw Lapsus at… wait for it… a Spike and Mike film night.
Sure, Spike’s got a mouth on him and a keen eye for raunchy animated shorts. But, he’s also a connoisseur of fine animated shorts. I like to think of it this way: Spike’s that guy that will offer to toss back PBRs with you all afternoon. Then, after you’ve had a few and have become open to anything, he’ll introduce you to 18-year-old Yamazaki Single Malt Whiskey because it’s smooth, quality whiskey. From Japan. The next day, when you’re sobered up, you’ll think, “What was that whiskey he served me? That was DAMN smooth.” And, you’ll quietly thank him for opening your eyes to something you would never have discovered on your own.
That’s how he strategically introduced Lapsus to the audience I was lucky to be a part of. And, I thank him and Juan Pablo Zaramella for it.
Juan Pablo Zaramella is an Argentinian animator who is actually more well-known for his stop-action animation shorts. You can spy a good sample of his stop-animation work on Z animation or on his channel on YouTube.
Quick: What’s the name of the latest E! reality show series that follows the experiences of 3 sisters?
If you know the answer and you live in San Diego, then maybe you should form a team and head out to Pop Culture Trivia Night at Whistle Stop Bar in South Park on Monday night, April 5th. The contest starts at 9PM.
How it works: Teams can consist of 1-5 people. Each person on the team antes up $2. If your team answers the most questions correctly, your team walks off with the entire pot.
If you’d prefer more study time before stepping into the ring, then use tomorrow night as reconnaissance and make a plan to go to the April 19th trivia night instead.
